Before winning the fourth season of Channel 10’s MasterChef, Andy Allen was an electrician. But following his gut and applying for the show and since him led into the kitchen of Sydney’s Three Blue Ducks.
Allen also has his own YouTube show, Andy Allen Cooks, which has just kickstarted a how-to cooking series.
Who is your inspiration?
I get inspiration from a lot of different people and places. I’m always thinking about food, no matter where I am or what I’m doing. It’s turned into my life and I couldn’t be happier. To narrow it down, I am probably inspired mostly when I’m working at Three Blue Ducks. The boys have such a great philosophy on food and I love learning from them.
What’s currently in your pantry?
Oooooooo the dreaded pantry question. I don’t have a very big pantry so I keep it pretty lean. However, I’ll never be without bottles of fish sauce, kecup manis, and sesame oil.
What’s in your fridge?
I’ve been flat chat over the past couple of weeks and have been on a couple of short trips over to LA. Hence, there would definitely be some sort of fermenting/rotting veggies in the crisper….
Best thing to come out of the microwave
My mate Benny does a pretty epic strawberry am in the microwave. I don’t own one so I haven’t really been practicing haha.
What did you last eat?
I smashed a couple of prawn dumplings smothered in Sriracha when I was walking to get my hair cut about an hour ago. I guess I have the same feelings for dumplings as most girls have for chocolate. LOVE!
Where do you like to go for a feed?
I had my birthday feed last month at Billy Kwongs. WOW! It was the best feed I’d had in a long time. Thanks Kylie!!
